Ultimate Bond Stress of Hit-RE 500 V4 to Rock

We are trying to find the required embedment of anchors in rock. The rocks are typically sandstone, shale/siltstone, and dyke rock in Australia. We cannot find any information about the ultimate bond strength of Hit RE500 V4 to these types of rock. Do you have any new data we can use in our calculations? Or do you have recommendations or suggestions for embedding anchors in this type of rock using Hilti products?

Hi Malcon,

The Australian Standards do not cover installation of anchors in Sandstone, shale or any other naturally occurring stone substrates. However, there have been local studies, in-house tests as well as external third party researches which supports anchoring RE500 into natural stone including sandstone. However, the capacity depends primarily on the material properties of the base material (that is, the Class / Type of shale/sandstone) as well as the hole diameter.

In order for us to help you with a potential solution, we would require additional details. Please feel free to contact us at Technical Advice Services - Hilti Australia for further guidance.

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,
