Query on calculation of lever arm in shear AS 5216

In calculation of e1, thickness of grout should be
neglected as per Section 4.2.2.4 of AS 5216. It seems
that the hilti is not neglecting the thickness of grout in
calculating eccentricity, e1. Refer page 4 of the attached pdf report.

Hi Nico,

Thank you for reaching out to Hilti. We understand that you are looking for the calculation with standoff condition , we have gone through the report and find out that you have input grout thickness=30mm and plate thickness=25mm , dia of anchor M24 dia and you have selected , refer the snap attached.

Therefore according to Section 4.2.2.4 of AS 5216 , the condition will be as per fig (a) attached.

After calculation this will be , e1+a3 = 25/2+20+0.5x24=44.5 which is correctly coming in the software.

But I understand that you are looking to design with condition of restraint , in that case you have to select standoff with clamping, as mentioned in the image attached.

Here you will get the condition according to the fig (b) of the code, Also this will be the condition of αM=2 .

Now, your results will reflect the required condition, please refer to the sample report attached here, you can see here the lever arm is 35mm.I hope I have answered your query.
