Hello I am currently specifying Hilti fixing discs for use in fastening down galvanised steel grid mesh panels. I am intending to specify the X-FCM-F fastening disc and X-ST-GR M8 stud as I am fixing into 11mm thick steel. I have chosen these parts as per the data sheet and I was just curious if there is going to be any issue with galvanic corrosion as I am fixing a SS stud to steel and then to a coated carbon steel fastening disc. Any info would be appreciated thanks.
Hi Dominic,
Thank you for contacting Hilti.
If I understood your application correctly, I believe the fastener piece will be of a nobler material (stainless steel) than the fastened part (carbon steel).
That being said, galvanic corrosion might be neglectable, with no impact on the lifetime of the structure. Please refer to the attached image and pages 12 and 26 to 27 of Hilti's corrosion handbook >> click here.
I hope this information is enough to answer your question, but please let me know if you require further assistance.
Kind regards,
