Chemset anchor into top of 110mm wide clay brickwork

Can Hilti HIT-HY 70 be used to insert a chemical anchor into the top of 110mm wide solid clay brickwork wall as per the attached image, to resist shear forces only (brick breakout) and no uplift forces (pull out). And if it can, are the standard design capacity tables applicable. It is noted that the design tables say that a minimum free edge distance of 200mm is required for shear loads, is this still applicable if the anchor is through the top of the brick?

Hello Alex,

Thank you for posting your question here on Ask Hilti.

We have two adhesives which can be used in masonry:
Hilti HY270 and Hilti HY170.

As per AEFAC guidelines TN 09 - Selection and Installation of fasteners in Masonry Section 6.2, fasteners should be installed in such a way that it should be supported from surrounding structure. The fasteners should not be located at the top course or close to the edge of the wall. It also tells us to allow at least 3 courses from the top of the wall and at least one complete unit from the edge of the wall. Moreover, we do not have any documents/approvals for anchoring on the top
of the brick.
