Hi, we are considering using HIT-HY 270 M12 HAS-U threaded rod, just want to ask if there is a minimum edge distance to a single course of brick 230W x 76H, considering the min. wall edge distance achieved. Or can the anchor be installed at the mortar joint? Thanks
Hello Leon,
Thank you for reaching out to Hilti.
For installation of fasteners in masonry, Hilti follows the guideline recommended by Australian Engineered Fasteners and Anchor Council (AEFAC) as per their TN 09 “Selection and Installation of fasteners in Masonry” (link).
As per the following, on Page 9 Cl 6.2, it mentions that the fasteners should not be installed at the mortar joints as they are often poorly filled and weakest part of the masonry. Also, the fasteners should not be located close to the edge of the masonry unit. They should be positioned close to the centre to the unit as possible or in such a way that it is supported from the surrounding structure.
Moreover, you must avoid top three courses and leave at least one unit from the edge of the wall while fixing to the centreline of the brick unit.
Please see attached image.
Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
