Re-Use Chem Anchor Hole to Install New Chem Anchor

Hi
We have an existing antenna pole base that is installed on a concrete slab using chem anchors. However, the build team did not use grouting and have left an excessive gap between the base plate and concrete slab.
Due to space restrictions, we are trying to remove the steelwork and base plate and reinstall at the same location, except this time, with no gap between slab and base plate. This will help the anchors to achieve it's full capacity.

My question is, can we re-use the same anchor holes to install new chem anchors? Are there any best preactices that Hilti recommends in this regard?

See attached photo for details.

Hello Zee,

Thank you for reaching out to Hilti.

First of all, for the used chemical holes, you will need to remove the current chemical by coring and roughen the holes. After that, it will leave you with holes of bigger diameter. For that, you have three options:

  1. According to AS5216, you need to fill the holes with non-shrink mortar or our RE500V3 and perform installation of anchors with new holes.

  1. You can look for anchor rods with bigger diameter and install in the cored hole.
  2. You can use RE500V3 for an oversized hole for 1.5 times the size of the diameter. However, we would recommend doing an onsite testing for any of these anchors but please reach out to us if you'd like to explore this option at LINK.

Hope this helps

Kind regards
