Wondering what base material bricks to use when modelling extruded brick connection in Profis to meet Australian Standards, I don't see any options that are close to the Australian common bricks.
Hello Mick,
Thank you for reaching out to Hilti.
Currently, there is no anchoring standard in Australia for masonry applications, therefore, Hilti implements the European system based on testing on different masonry base materials all over the world, which includes Standard Australian Solid, Hollow clay bricks, and hollow Concrete blocks. Hilti has published loading data on selected masonry base materials based on testing criteria mentioned in ETAG029 and design method as per the guidelines provided in EOTA TR 053 & TR 054 respectively.
As you know the physical properties of different masonry units can vary (such as dimensions, density, compressive strength, shell thicknesses etc.) the capacities will vary as well. However based on some internal testing, we have resistance values for Australian common brick HC11. If you check the Page 16 of technical data sheet (link) for HIT HY 270, it gives you some resistance values for HC11 brick (highlighted in the attached image).
Hence, you can utilize the data present in the Technical Data Sheet for your application. However, due to the uncertainty of the brick type, we suggest performing on-site testing (based on AEFAC TN05 guidelines) for resistance determination and installation verification.
Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
